Antique Persian miniature painting on bone of three riders playing chovgan/polo
$99.00
The quality of the painting on this miniature Persian painting is outstanding. It is unframed and has a small chip from the upper left corner. It could be reframed or kept on display in a cabinet of curiosities. The subject is a game of chovgan, the precursor to modern polo, which originated in ancient Iran. It is difficult to date with certainty but is likely from the late 19th century or very early 20th century. The details on clothing, saddles and facial expressions are evidence of a talented artist, who I believe has signed his work in the centre at the top. Please look closely at the photos, magnificantion has been used to capture the detail in this beautiful artwork.
