Vintage Sovereign inlaid wooden tray featuring native timbers

Sovereign Woodworkers Ltd

$75.00

This tray is a piece of retro kiwiana and is in very good condition. There is a little minor flaking to the varnish which isn't surprising given it probably dates from the 1970s. There is a knock to one corner, shown in the photographs but it is otherwise in remarkable condition. It is marked sovereign on the back and includes a full list of the timbers featured.

Whanganui-based firm Sovereign Woodworkers Ltd produced a wide range of wooden wares highlighting the beauty of our native timber. It was established in 1949 by Austin Brasell, Arnold (Arnie) Burling and Wyn Hart. The firms heyday was the 1960s and it remained popular throughout the 1970s, eventually closing in 1992. They produced a vast range of products including trays, pencil cases, coffee tables, bowls, ashtrays, 21st birthday keys, rulers, book ends and picture frames.

Please look closely at the photographs as they form part of the description and ask if you have any questions. Other items depicted are for display only and are not included.
