Early Victorian framed silhouette of a child
$239.00
This elegant silhouette portrait dates the the early years of the Victorian era. Prior to the introduction of photography, silhouettes were a cost effective way of capturing a person's likeness. This image depicts a young boy called Randolph. On the wooden back board a later family member has noted Uncle Randolph, Grandfather's brother. I wonder if it commemorated a breeching ceremony as he appears to be in a skeleton suit, which was the clothing worn by young boys once they had graduated from the petticoats and dresses of infancy and these ceremonies usually occurred between the ages of 4 and 6, which seems about right for the child pictured. It has the signs of wear you'd expect after almost 200 years but it is in lovely antique condition and is in its original frame. It would be spectacular with other interesting images on a gallery wall.
The other adult silhouette portrait is not included but will be available for sale soon. Please look closely at the photographs as they form part of the description and please get in touch if you have any questions at all.
