She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith, illustrated by Hugh Thomson

This stunning large scale copy of Goldsmith's famous play was published by Hodder & Stoughton in 1912.

It is the first edition illustrated by highly regarded artist Hugh Thomson. It features gilt titles and embossed decoration as well as pictorial endpapers. There are twenty-five tipped in colour plates within decorative borders, mounted on art paper. While it is a very good copy, there is a fairly clumsy taped repair internally and some foxing to the preliminaries and sporadically throughout. 

The cover is exceptional with its stunning art nouveau design. The small bat on the cover won me over completely. This is a beautiful volume that would be lovely on display.
