Wonder Atlas - A New Atlas of the World, edited by J.M. Parrish, The Literary Press Ltd, London, 1940 Edition, soft cover format, 27 pages.
I love the graphic design on the front and back covers of this atlas. The bold colours, font and simple visual elements make a real statement and would look fantastic framed on a wall. I have framed a couple of interesting publications out of love for their covers and if, like me, you don't want to remove them a competent framer can include the whole thing, so it can be removed in future if you wish. This is only 27 pages long so it would be easy.
But before turning it into wall art you should explore the contents as the inside is truly fascinating too. Having been published during WWII, it shows disputed territories in barred colours highlighting the areas occupied at the time. There is also a fascinating map showing air routes - New Zealand had none. We had a couple of projected routes, but it really makes you reflect on the convenience of modern air travel. The index includes every city with over 35,000 people in the world at the time and it was only three printed pages long.
It is in good vintage condition with minor foxing and small areas of damage. Please look closely at the photographs and get in touch if you have any questions.
